A meeting of the standing conference with participation of plenipotentiary representatives of 9 CIS states (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan) and SORB Executive bureau was held in Moscow on October 18, 2024.
During the event, the plenipotentiary representatives informed about the situation in the CIS member-states in the area of countering terrorism and extremism, as well as the most important events in the foreign and domestic policies of the Commonwealth countries.
In his opening remarks, the Head of the Center informed the participants about the meetings of the CIS bodies held in October 2024 and their results pertaining to the activities of the CIS ATC.
Thus on October 4, Astana hosted the 55th meeting of SORB, which members reviewed and approved the results of the Second CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism, the joint anti-terrorist exercise of the competent authorities of the CIS member-states “East-Antiterror - 2024”, the CIS ATC’s plan of actions for 2025 and the draft Program of the CIS member-states’ cooperation in the field of countering terrorism and extremism for 2026-2028.
On October 7, Moscow hosted a meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers which decided to grant the Russian FSB Academy the status of a Basic organization of CIS member-states for training personnel in the field of combating terrorism and extremism.
On October 8, Moscow hosted a meeting of the Council of the Heads of CIS States, which approved the Program of Cooperation of the CIS Member-States in the Field of Deradicalization for 2025–2027, developed at the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and decided to extend the term of office of the Head of the CIS ATC for 3 years.
Besides, Evgeny Sysoev informed about the participation of the Center’s delegation in the International Science to Practice Conference dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Academy of the National Security Committee organized by the Republic of Kazakhstan on October 10-11, 2024.
As part of the meeting agenda, the Center's executives informed the plenipotentiary representatives in detail about the Second CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism and the joint anti-terrorist exercise of the competent authorities of the CIS member-states "East-Antiterror - 2024" conducted on September 4-5, 2024 in the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the CIS ATC’s efforts to organize work in countering financing of terrorism and measures to improve it.
The meeting took place in an atmosphere of trust and meaningful dialogue.
