An International Research-to-Practice Conference on “Geopolitical Map of the World: Threats and Challenges” kicked off on 9 December 2020 года in Moscow. The conference was organized by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center in cooperation with the Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU).

The event is attended by the MSLU Rector Irina Kraeva, CIS ATC Head Andrey Novikov, CIS ATC First Deputy Zhanat Saipoldayev, Chief of All-Russia Scientific and Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Interior Valery Kozhokar, Deputy Head of Belarus Institute of National Security Gennady Krasko, President of the Academy of geopolitical Issues Leonid Ivashov, Deputy Director of the PR and Media Affairs Center of the Russian Trade and Commercial Chamber Sergey Nebrenchin, representatives of non-governmental organizations, academia and experts, students.
The plenary and sections’ discussions covered, inter alia, the following issues:
– Characteristics of contemporary political process;
–Place of Russia, CIS countries and international organizations in the geopolitical structure of the world;
– Russia in the system of affairs with the CIS states and international organizations;
– International image of contemporary Russia;
– Political problems of today’s Russia;
– International terrorism as a global contemporary challenge;
– Terrorist threats in the CIS area: state and trends;
– Terrorist ideology: mechanisms of distribution;
– Burning issues of countering terrorism and extremism, ways to solve them;
– Spatial (regional) factors of the global divergence;
– New requirements to education of politologists and foreign policy experts;
– Matrix of fundamental definitions of the regional studies course amid new requirements to education on “Foreign Regional Studies”.
In his opening remarks CIS ATC Head Colonel General of Police Andrey Novikov said that contemporary terrorism had turned to be a large-scale threat to security of the entire world community. With that active terrorist use of advantages of the media, IT, PR technologies, complex financial and marketing schemes for criminal purpose had become a critical aspect, he noted. This translated to rise of cyber-terrorism, hybrid threats, ecological and bio-terrorism, as well as to significant strengthening of ideological pressure by the terrorist organizations on certain social groups of population.
The Head of CIS ATC said that in current environment the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center was focusing on finding new ways of adequate response to terrorist threats. According to him, this issue demands a broad multilateral cooperation, strengthening of national mechanisms, active participation of not just special services and law enforcement agencies in this process but civil society, educational organizations and youth.
Andrey Novikov commended the MSLU contribution into anti-terrorism and anti-extremism activity, stressed importance of the ongoing counter-terrorism scientific researches and international research-to-practice events carried out by the University.
The aim of the three-day conference to be held on 9-11 December 2020 is to promote scientific researches in international affairs, geopolitics, countering to variable manifestations of international terrorism and its ideas, role of international organizations in international political processes.
