Expert consultations of the representatives of the counter-terrorism and counter-extremism practice units of the security bodies and special services of the CIS member-states of the Central Asian Region

The CIS Anti-Terrorism Center (CIS ATC) with the support from the State Committee of National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic held Expert consultations of the representatives of the counter-terrorism and counter-extremism practice units of the security bodies and special services of the CIS member-states of the Central-Asian Region on 9 December 2011 in Bishkek.

The event gathered experts of the CIS ATC, National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, State Committee of National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic, Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, State Committee of National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan, National Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as CIS bodies including Coordination Service of the Council of the Commanders of the Border Forces and Office for the Coordination of the Fight Against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crime on the Territory of CIS member-states.

The participants assessed operational situation in the territory of the Central Asian region states of the Commonwealth and discussed modern terrorist and extremist threats. Improvement of the mechanism of search of persons wanted for terrorist and extremist offences, optimization of the mechanisms of information cooperation of the competent authorities of the region's states and intensification of practical use of thematic arrays of the CIS ATC Specialized Data Bank which are accessible on-line have become separate issues of the expert consultation.

The expert consultations have become a second stage of implementation of the instructions issued by the Council of the Heads of Security Bodies and Special Services of the CIS member-states to the CIS ATC with regard to development of of a set of additional preventive measures in the CT field with due regard for the trends in operational situation both in the Central Asian region and in the Commonwealth as a whole.

A special meeting of the standing conference of the authorized representatives of the CIS member-states at CIS ATC attended by representatives of 11 member-states were held within the framework of the first stage in November 2011 in the CIS ATC Headquarters, Moscow.
