The CIS Anti-Terrorism Center held the V Meeting of the heads (chiefs of staff) of the national anti-terrorism centers of the CIS member-states in Moscow from 29 February to 1 March 2012.
Subject of the meeting: "Role and place of security agencies, special services and law enforcement of the Commonwealth of Independent States in providing Eurasian security".
The meeting was attended by representatives of the national anti-terrorism centers (HQs), counter-terrorism units and anti-terrorism special units of the Azerbaijan Republic, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Moldova, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, Ukraine, official and authorized representatives of the CIS member-states in the Russian Federation and CIS ATC, representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, Coordination Service of the Council of the Commanders of the Border Forces, Office for the Coordination of the Fight Against Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crime on the Territory of CIS member-states, Secretariat of the Council of the Ministers of Defense, Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorism Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Center for Combating Illicit Trafficking of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors, ministries of foreign and internal affairs of the Russian Federation, Federal migration service of the Russian Federation, Kazakh and Russian institutes of strategic studies and MGIMO. Issues of the state and prospects of the Eurasian security, problematic aspects of security in the Commonwealth states, elaboration of joint preventive measures for providing CIS member-states security against new challenges and threats were placed on the agenda.
The experts assessed the level of influence which the occurring in the Eurasian space social-economic and political processes had on the quality of anti-terrorism protection in the CIS states, discussed qualitative changes (modifications) of the contemporary terrorism emerged during the "Arab revolutions" as well as new challenges and threats in the common Eurasian space of the Commonwealth states. A scheduled meeting of the Scientific and Advisory Council at CIS ATC was held as part of the V meeting.
As a result of the joint work an outcome document was adopted where the participants identified the specific steps for further improvement of efficiency of interaction and cooperation in countering terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism.
