The CIS ATC representative office in the Central Asian region was founded by the Decision of the Council of the CIS Heads of States as of 7 October 2002 in Kishinev, Republic of Moldova.
It is a permanent regional component unit of the CIS ATC which coordinates interaction of the competent authorities of the CIS member-states (Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan) in combating terrorism and other violent acts of extremism.
Main missions of the Representative Office:
- coordinating interaction of the competent authorities of the CIS member-states of the Central Asian region in combating international terrorism and other acts of extremism;
- elaborating draft regulatory legal, program, analytical and other documents on countering terrorism and other acts of extremism in the region;
- monitoring operational situation in countering terrorism and other violent acts of extremism in the region ;
- assisting the competent authorities of the CIS member-states in inter-state search of persons who committed terrorism offences and fleeing from prosecution or execution;
- compiling and analysing information on the state, dynamics and trends of proliferation of terrorism and violent acts of extremism in the region;
- preparing and conducting joint staff command exercises and anti-terrorism trainings of the specialized counter-terrorism units of the Commonwealth states in the region;
- assisting in preparation and conduct of search operations and joint counter-terrorism measures in combating international terrorism and other acts of extremism in the region;
- maintaining working contacts with representatives of international counter-terrorism and counter-extremism centers and organizations of the Central Asian region states.
