The results of the Fourth International Contest of Student Initiatives in the field of countering the ideology of terrorism "Student Shield - 2024", organized by the Moscow State Linguistic University and Anti-Terrorism Center of the CIS Member-States, were summed up on June 14, 2024 in Moscow.
The award ceremony was chaired by the MSLU rector Irina Kraeva and Head of CIS ATC Evgeny Sysoev.
In his welcoming statement the CIS ATC Head noted that young people who are due to their age are vulnerable to destructive ideas remain in the focus of the terrorism and extremism ideologists’ attention. The Internet and numerous social media act as a mechanism for proliferating violence ideas.
This requires support for the efforts undertaken at the international and national levels and aimed at preventing youth engagement into terrorist and extremist organizations.
The University rector highlighted the importance of the contest which became a traditional event contributing to comprehensive awareness-raising work in the CIS area, development and strengthening of cooperation in preventing terrorism and extremism among young people.
By decision of the jury, students of higher educational institutions of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan became the winners of the contest.
In total, 289 students representing 33 universities of 11 states and 85 students of secondary educational institutions representing 15 colleges and schools of Russia took part in the contest.
The jury has reviewed 240 works that is thrice the number of the previous year.
