The results of the Third International Contest of Student Initiatives in the field of countering the ideology of terrorism "Student Shield - 2023", organized by the Moscow State Linguistic University and Anti-Terrorism Center of the CIS Member States, were summed up on June 9, 2023 in Moscow.
The MSLU rector I.A. Kraeva and First Deputy Head of CIS ATC Zh.N. Saypoldaev attendeв the award ceremony.
In his welcoming speech Zhanat Saipoldaev said that propaganda of radical ideology on the Internet remained the main source of involvement of citizens in terrorist activities. He pointed out the importance of ensuring the proper level of interaction between interested state bodies, public institutions and civil society in the prevention of terrorism and extremism, as well as the need to find new ways to counter attempts to involve young people in illegal activities, their spiritual and moral education.
I.A. Kraeva commended the work of the organizing committee and the jury of the contest, emphasizing that the authors of the works, students from the CIS countries represent a powerful creative force ‑ youth, and it was important that the counter-terrorist and counter-extremist narratives came from the youth environment. The rector also expressed confidence that the materials of the contest would contribute to the fight on terrorism and be used in practical activities.
By decision of the jury, students of higher educational institutions of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan became the winners of the contest. The awards were presented in four nominations: "Best Video", "Best Literary Work", "Best Informational Visual Material" and "Best Preventive Action".
In total, 110 students, representatives of 23 universities of the CIS member states, took part in the contest, 76 works were submitted for the jury’s review.
The international contest of student initiatives "Student Shield" has been held by the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center and Moscow State Linguistic University since 2021. The purpose of the contest is to support the best author's initiatives of students of higher educational institutions of the CIS member states in the field of countering terrorist and extremist ideology.
