ON THE RESULTS OF THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF STUDENTS’ INITIATIVES “STUDENT SHIELD-2022”


A wrap-up and awards ceremony for the participants of the International contest of students’ initiatives in countering terrorism ideology “Student Shield” took place in Moscow on June 17, 2022.

The event was chaired by the Head of CIS Anti-Terrorism Center E.S. Sysoev and Rector of the Moscow State Linguistic University I.A. Kraeva and attended by representatives of the universities, youth and student organizations.

In her opening statement I.A. Kraeva noted that extremism and terrorism had become a real threat to national security in Russia and in the world in the last decade and the youth environment and the society of the higher school felt a persistent need to counter negative manifestations.

In his welcoming remarks E.S. Sysoev stressed a necessity in continued consolidation of efforts of the entire international community to counter the attempts to involve the youth into terrorism and extremism, systematic and comprehensive work aimed at awareness, spiritual and moral education of the young generation amid the rising terrorist activity.

The Student Shield is a good example of joint contribution to terrorism prevention in the CIS space, the Head of CIS ATC noted. He also expressed confidence that the contest would become a good tradition and would serve a solid foundation for further development and strengthening of cooperation in prevention of terrorism and extremism in the youth environment.

Totally 190 students took part in the contest in 2022 (73 in 2021) from 29 universities (16 in 2021) from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. The jury reviewed 150 works (53 in 2021) in four categories: “The best video clip”, “The best literary work”, “The best visual information material”, and “The best preventive action”.
