The CIS ATC's delegation took part in the 40th meeting of the working group on Afghanistan under the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers in Moscow on December 11, 2024.
The meeting brought together delegations from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Coordination Service of the Council of Border Troops Commanders, Executive Committee of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, International Committee of the Red Cross, as well as representatives of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
The participants exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and the factors negatively impacting the normalization of the situation in the country witnessing unfavorable trends in the socio-economic, humanitarian, and security spheres.
The members of the working group emphasized the importance of the measures undertaken by Afghanistan to establish international cooperation and implement joint projects in the socio-economic sphere, while noting the continued risks of terrorist and drug threats to the states of the Central Asian region emanating from the territory of Afghanistan. In conclusion, the representatives of the CSTO member-states expressed a common opinion on the need for consolidated efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan and confirmed their readiness to assist in coordinating activities to establish peace processes in this country.
