The CIS ATC’s representative attended the UN High-Level Briefing on the UNOCT Programmes and Projects in Central Asia organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) in partnership with the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) on January 23, 2024.
The briefing focused on achievements of the Central Asian states and the way forward in countering terrorism and extremism in the region.
In his remarks, USG Vladimir Voronkov praised the results of joint counter-terrorism efforts in Central Asia and urged Member States to bolster regional cooperation.
The event also featured opening remarks of Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of CTED, Ms. Natalia Gherman, and Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Asia and Head of UNRCCA, Mr. Kaha Imnadze as well as statements by the permanent representatives to the UN of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
