Representatives of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center took part in the working group meeting on Afghanistan at the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CSTO member-states on April 27, 2023.
The event was also attended by CSTO Deputy Secretary General S.I. Ordabaev, Ccharge d'affaires ad interim of Afghanistan in the Russian Federation D.N. Garval, delegations of the CSTO member-states, Regional center for preventive diplomacy for Central Asia, Coordinating Service of the Council of Border Troops Commanders of the CIS member-states, International Committee of the Red Cross.
The meeting participants expressed their concern over negative trends of situation development in Afghanistan. Noted among the main factors hindering its stabilization were continued operations of the Islamic State – Khorasan Province international terrorist organization in the territory of the country as well as deteriorating humanitarian situation.
Grave economic conditions and lack of alternative accessible sources of income force the Afghan population to participate in drug production. The fight on drugs shall become one of the priority lines of further cooperation.
According to the meeting participants, the mentioned factors can negatively impact the situation both in Afghanistan and Central-Asian states.
