A representative of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center (CIS ATC) took part in the follow-up visit of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) to the Republic of Uzbekistan on November 28 – December 2, 2022.
The joint delegation led by CTED Chief of Section for Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia also included officers of CTED, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT), the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team pursuant to resolutions 1526 (2004) and 2253 (2015) concerning ISIL (Da'esh), Al-Qaida and the Taliban and associated individuals and entities, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the World Customs Organization (WCO), the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing (EAG), CIS ATC, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (RATS SCO).
The visit was conducted within the framework of the Committee’s work to monitor, facilitate and promote Member States’ implementation of Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001), 1624 (2005), 2178 (2014) and 2396 (2017), as well as to identify the required technical assistance.
The visit focused on Uzbekistan’s implementation of the recommendations made by the Committee following its 2009 and 2015 visits. The visiting delegation discussed issues pertaining to activities of the competent authorities, organization of the border control, as well as countering of contemporary challenges and threats, including financing of terrorism.
