CIS ATC participated in UNOCT event

The CIS ATC’s representative took part in a high-level virtual event to launch five new specialized guides (modules) dedicated to the protection of particularly vulnerable targets against terrorist attacks, organized by the UN Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) on September 6, 2022.

The online launch event was attended by over 140 representatives of the member-states, international and regional organizations, think tanks and civil society institutions.

The event was opened by the Under-Secretary-General of the UNOCT, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, who stressed that “Because terrorists aim to frighten and divide us, only by working together at all levels we can successfully address this threat. The Guides we are launching today are a common effort.”

The specialized guides were prepared by the UNOCT following the three Expert Group Meetings held in cooperation with partners Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Institute (UNICRI), and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC).

The guides complement the “2018 United Nations Compendium of Good Practices on the Protection of Critical Infrastructure (CIP) against Terrorist Attacks” prepared by CTED and Interpol, by focusing on public places/"soft" targets as distinct types of sites worthy of a dedicated security approach.

The five modules “The protection of “soft" targets”, “The protection of touristic sites”, “The protection of religious sites and places of worship”, “The protection of urban centers” and “Threats posed by unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to vulnerable targets” are published on the UNOCT’s web-page and are available in Arabic, English, French, and Russian.
