CIS ATC attended 87th meeting of Border Troops Commanders’ Council

The CIS ATC delegation led by the Center’s Deputy Head A. Kutmanov took part in the 87th meeting of the Council of the Border Troops Commanders, held in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia on October 19, 2023.

The event was attended by delegations of border agencies of 8 Commonwealth states - Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan; SKPV Coordination Service, CIS bodies – Executive Committee, CIS ATC, Office for the Coordination of Fight on Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Types of Crime on the Territory of the Commonwealth States, representatives of Secretariat of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and Coordination Council of the International Union of Public Associations of Border Service Veterans.

The meeting analyzed the situation developing on the external borders of the CIS states while paying special attention to trends of its development in the most dangerous areas. An assessment was given to the joint special border operations of the border agencies of Russia and Tajikistan conducted in 2023. The participants discussed humanitarian cooperation, joint research and educational activities, approved the results of the work of the Commanders’ Council in the current year and outlined the priority tasks for 2024.

In his statement A. Kutmanov assessed terrorist threats to the CIS and highlighted the comprehensive measures undertaken by the competent authorities of the Commonwealth states to maintain proper control of the situation.

In addition, the Center’s representative informed the Council members about the events which took place in September this year:

joint anti-terrorism exercise of the competent authorities of the CIS member states “Eurasia-Antiterror - 2023”, for the first time held simultaneously with the exercise of the competent authorities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member-states;

first CIS conference on combating terrorism and extremism, which gathered 13 countries of the Commonwealth and SCO, 10 CIS bodies and 8 international organizations.
