The delegation of the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center led by its Head E.S. Sysoev took part in the 7th Regional meeting of the executives of the CIS border agencies held in Almaty on March 16, 2023.
The meeting reviewed topical threats to the border security in the Central-Asian region, discussed joint preventive measures to neutralize them on the Commonwealth’s external borders.
In his statement the CIS ATC Head noted that the situation in the field of counter-terrorism and counter-extremism remained complex and was aggravated amid the escalating international tension. The threat of trans-border relocation of terrorists and their use of migration flow to cross borders under the guise of refugees remained.
This is demonstrated by the results of operations of the competent authorities which were able to suppress terrorist manifestations and keep control over the situation in 2022.
E.S. Sysoev drew attention to the high level of practical cooperation of the border agencies and special services of the CIS member-states in countering terrorist manifestations and the substantial contribution of the Border Troops Commanders’ Council to the interstate search of wanted persons.
