A meeting of the committee of the heads of law-enforcement units of the Council of the heads of Customs Services of the CIS member-states was held in Minsk, Republic of Belarus on June 22, 2022. The event brought together delegations of the customs agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, as well as CIS Executive Committee and CIS bodies. The CIS Anti-Terrorism Center was represented by the Center’s Deputy Head Major General P.V. Tikhonov.
The discussions covered burning issues of organization of work to identify and suppress crimes and violations in the customs field, conduct of events aimed to prevent them, fight on international trafficking in precursors of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. Special attention was given to implementation of the Matrix analytical project aimed at identification of the forbidden objects delivered by international mail and express cargo.
In his welcoming remarks P.V. Tikhonov noted a dynamic nature of development of cooperation between the Center and the Committee. Permanent information exchange allowed not only forecasting the situation development within the territory and on the borders of the CIS member-states but coordinating conduct of joint operations.
In his report the Center’s representative assessed the state of terrorist threats in the Commonwealth in 2021 and forecasted their developments in the current year. It is worth noting that the meeting participants made particular focus on this issue, admitting that new challenges and threats demanded constant improvement of the operational techniques to suppress and prevent illegal activities.
