CIS ATC DELEGATION PARTICIPATED IN THE 84TH MEETING OF THE BORDER TROOPS COMMANDERS COUNCIL

 

The 84th meeting of the Border Troops Commanders Council took place in Turkestan, Republic of Kazakhstan on May 18, 2022. The meeting was attended by the delegations of the border guard agencies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, CIS bodies, SCO RATS, CSTO Secretariat, and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center led by its head Colonel General E.S. Sysoev.

The participants discussed topical issues of the Commonwealth external borders’ protection and summarized the 30 years of the Border Troops Commanders Council’s work.

In his statement the CIS ATC Head extended congratulation to the Council members on the round anniversary and noted that the Council had been committed to meet complex and diverse challenges related to shaping and development of the border security system in the Commonwealth area and undoubtedly become one of the most efficient tools of international cooperation in this field.

The CIS ATC Head commended high level of cooperation between the Council’s Coordinating Service and the CIS ATC by pointing to the positive results of joint special border operations resulted in arrest of over 30 fugitives wanted by the CIS states for terrorist offenses in 2021. He stressed that the experience of jointly addressing regional security challenges was a good basis for development of counter-terrorism cooperation.

In his remarks E.S. Sysoev assessed the state of terrorist threats for the Commonwealth in 2021 and offered outlook for its development in the current year.

Besides, the Head of CIS ATC and executives of the invited international organizations met with the Chair of the State Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lieutenant General of national security E.A. Sagimbaev on the margins of the 84th Meeting where the parties discussed prospects for further strengthening the cooperation.
