A regular meeting of the heads of working units of the CIS bodies on cooperation in law-enforcement and security area was held in the CIS ATC’s headquarters on 10 December 2019.
The Meeting brought together executives and representatives of the CIS Executive Committee, Executive Bureau of the Council of the Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services, Coordination Service of the Council of the Commanders of Border Troops, secretariats of the Council of Defense Ministers, Coordination Council of Prosecutor Generals, Council of the Heads of Penitentiary Services, Office for Coordination of Fight on Organized Crime and Other Dangerous Crimes in the Territory of CIS Member-States, Committee of the Heads of Law-Enforcement Units of the Council of Heads of Custom Services, Interstate Anti-Corruption Council, as well as CIS Anti-Terrorism Center.
In his opening remarks the Head of CIS ATC Colonel-General of Police Andrey Novikov noted significance of such meetings, their need for coordinating joint stands and elaborating consolidated approaches to solving common tasks. He added that the meeting offers a possibility to share best practices of the CIS bodies in their mandated areas.
In the course of the event the participants reviewed topical issues of cooperation in ensuring security and law enforcement, particularly improvement of information sharing in countering transnational crime; cooperation of the working units of CIS bodies in preventing illegal drug trafficking, psychotropic substances and their precursors; training, refresher and advanced training in security field, etc.
A respective decision was taken on each point of the agenda. The working units of the CIS bodies specializing in security and law-enforcement are recommended to continue elaboration of joint organizational and practical measures for the CIS bodies aimed at implementation of conceptional lines of cooperation in countering contemporary challenges and threats; to further a practice of mutual participation of their representatives in the joint events (operations, drills, seminars, educational gatherings, conferences, etc.); to continue as mandated a practice of mutual information sharing on the state and trends of situation development affected by illegal drug trafficking, as well as on the proposals of further improvement of cooperation in this area.
Next meeting of the heads of working units of the CIS bodies on cooperation in law-enforcement and security area is scheduled for 2020 in Minsk, Republic of Belarus.
