CIS ATC PARTICPATES IN THE CIS INTERNATIONAL EXPERT FORUM ON INFORMATION SECURITY

 

On 29 June this year the Head of CIS Anti-Terrorism Center Colonel-General of Police Andrey Novikov took part as a guest of honor in the CIS International Expert Forum on Information Security organized by the Institute of Strategic and Inter-Regional Studies at the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the cooperation with the Ministry of Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan and CIS Executive Committee.

The Forum held in the hybrid form with online presence of the participants from abroad brought together representatives of the international organizations, diplomatic missions and leading analytical centers of the CIS states, heads of line ministries and agencies.

The Forum primarily focused on substantive discussion of the burning issues of information security, joint search for their solution in terms of dynamic development of the digital agenda in the CIS, elaboration of recommendations on joint counteraction to security challenges and threats in the Commonwealth information space.

According to the event organizers, onrush of the information-communication technologies and their penetration into all spheres of our life have become today one of the key factors of economic and social-political development of the state and society.

The CIS ATC conducts coordination, data collection and analysis to implement agreed decisions of the security bodies and special services of the Commonwealth states, preparation of proposals and recommendations related to information counteraction to terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism.

In 2009 the Center elaborated a Concept of Cooperation in the Field of Information Counteraction to Terrorism and Other Violent Manifestations of Extremism. The Concept clearly defines the goal of cooperation of the Commonwealth states in information security. This includes shaping of the agreed strategy and tactics of information counteraction to terrorism, coordination of the joint activities of the countries’ special services in this field and integration of their anti-terrorism capacities.

The objectives of cooperation have been defined with due regard for the nature of the threats in the field of information security and suggest adequate response through conduct of coordinated joint search operations, public information campaigns and counter-narratives implemented within the scope the Program of cooperation of the CIS member-states in fight on terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism.
